The exhibition is dedicated to Elwiro Michał Andriolli, one of the most famous Polish illustrators of the late nineteenth century, whose adventurous life could be a canvas for more than one action film. The original version of this exhibition was completed in 2017 on the initiative of the students of the Elwiro Michał Andriolli High School of Fine Arts in Mińsk Mazowiecki and is available at: http://www.eduwystawy.eu/andriolli/
The exhibition presented in this portal has been expanded and corrected to the extent necessary. Although the students of the High School of Fine Arts performed their task very well, they were not able to reach all the materials within a short period of time, given to them to complete the work. The exhibition was prepared using material sourced from archives and scholarly papers, the list of which can be found in the Bibliography section. A lot of information provided in the publications was also clarified on the basis of press reports from several magazines, which published information about the works, travels and career development of the talented draughtsman on an ongoing basis. We also send a huge thank you to Mr. Robert Lewandowski, a tireless researcher of the history of Andriolli, for providing illustrations from his own collections. His numerous publications, which cover the content presented here more extensively, are also referred to in the Bibliography.
Unfortunately, although Elwiro Michal Andriolli gained international fame and book editions with his illustrations are still being reissued abroad, he is almost forgotten in Poland. We are glad that we can contribute to the commemoration of this remarkable artist by including an exhibition about him on the portal Uncommon People.
We hope that this exhibition will be used in education at various levels and also serve a large group of people interested in the development of knowledge about culture and art.
