In the world of art or science there is no place for eternal fame and adoration. It is particularly difficult to be a “prophet in one’s own country”. Andriolli worked on illustrations for Adam Mickiewicz’s Dziady and Konrad Wallenrod. His illustrations for the national epic were rated as very poor. These events upset the mental condition of the man who until then had been very strong. The lonely artist wrote bitterly Criticism is a necessary and useful thing, but most of all it has to be written by people who know something themselves and have comprehensive education, and what is more, it has to be written in ink, not in gall.
In March 1892, in the Warsaw studio at Oboźna Street Andriolli exhibited several of his works. Among them there was a template titled Where did the Lithuanians come back from?, which by the critic Czesław Jankowski was recognised as Andriolli’s most mature work.
Andriolli’s success is measured by the books with his illustrations still published in Poland and other countries. In Poland, despite several dozen editions of “Pan Tadeusz” with his illustrations, also in recent years, the artist has unfortunately become more and more forgotten.
