In Italy Andriolli not only studied diligently and toured the homeland of his ancestors, but was also interested in the activity of the Carbonari. In 1860 he met Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882), a national hero who fought for the unification of Italy. The young Andriolli, in whose veins Italian blood flowed, joined the Garibaldi unit, learning active patriotism.
